Herbert L. Lerner
Herbert L. Lerner was born in Brooklyn, New York, on June 5, 1922. Following his military service from 1942 to 1945, which interrupted his college studies, he attended and received a Bachelor of Law Degree from Brooklyn Law School June 9, 1949 and was admitted to the New York Bar, March 20, 1950. Mr. Lerner attended Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn and received a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Degree on June 14, 1961, and later received a Juris Doctor Degree from Brooklyn law School on November 17, 1967. Prior to receiving the J.D. Degree, Mr. Lerner qualified for and was registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on October 10, 1961.
In 1961, Mr. Lerner was invited by Curt M. Avery to join the firm Knight Bros. which had been founded in 1842 and specialized in European corporate clients. During Mr. Lerner’s ten year association with Mr. Avery, the book “Das U.S. Patent” was written in German by Mr. Avery and was widely circulated throughout Europe. Mr. Lerner reviewed and proofread the book before its publication.
After Mr. Avery’s demise in 1971, the Knight Bros. firm dissolved and the present modern firm known at the time as Herbert L Lerner, P.A., founded by Mr. Lerner and subsequently became Lerner and Greenberg, P.A. when Laurence A. Greenberg, who had been working closely with Mr. Lerner for several years, became a partner in the firm.
Mr. Lerner currently holds the position of Vice President in the firm of Lerner and Greenber, P.A.
Mr. Lerner is a member of the American Bar Association, The New York Intellectual Property law Association, The Intellectual Property law Association of Florida, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
